Invicta Fighting Championships president Shannon Knapp and the promotion’s matchmaker Julie Kedzie have had one goal in mind it appears in my eyes anyways since joining forces to demonstrate just what WMMA has to offer in the sport of mixed martial arts. That goal being to showcase the best WMMA has to offer from around the world. Along with that comes putting on fast pace, highly entertaining and again in my opinion year award winning contests which have nothing but fans on the edge of their seat begging for more.
When fighting for IFC, it means more than just signing a contract to fight. It represents leading the way for future WMMA stars and fighters of the future.
The Kansas City based promotion has seen top quality fighters come and go in the last year, but none other than last December. Since the departure, “new” names and faces have been popping up in regards to signing with the all women’s promotion.
Specifically, I was able to get in contact with one of those names, as she goes by “Doll Face”.
Ashely Greenway who is currently fighting out of North Carolina training at what is her husband’s owned gym. The 6 – 1 amateur fighter was originally influenced by her husband to get into the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) as she says.
“I got into mixed martial arts through my husband (pro fighter) Allen Greenway. I didn’t jump into it right away, as he was competing as an amateur at the time. We met and I went to all of his training practices and fights. It wasn’t until we opened up our own gym that I started getting into it. I only took kickboxing at first just to get back in shape from having our two boys. I fell in love with the whole sport in 2011 when I tried BJJ for the first time. I was hooked after the first class and ten short months later I made my debut on the same card as my husband. I train out of BodyQuest MMA out of Gastonia, NC owned and operated by my husband Allen Greenway. We have a very strong team full of undiscovered talent. We work hard day in day out to better ourselves. Allen really does a great job coaching and we constantly learn new things every day.”
Like any MMA or WMMA fighter, there is always someone that may have influenced or influences their certain style whether inside the cage or out. For Ashley it came down to two specific people.
“My influences are pretty simple my husband guides me in everything I do, he has helped me even when I scream at him, get upset, and basically act like a girl. If it wasn’t for him (Allen), I would not be nowhere near the fighter I am today. Tecia Torres would have to be my second influence. She has shown me that this sport is a lifestyle and it takes 100% dedication mentally and physically. I am so lucky to get to know her as a person and I really look up to her, as I am sure so many others do. She is a great role model and an unbelievable person and fighter.”
While not having made her pro debut yet, Greenway’s plan to wait until she fighters under Invicta FC to do so. With one more scheduled amateur fight in the near future, it won’t be long before we see her in the IFC cage.
“At this very moment I am 6-1 as an ammy I will be doing another amateur fight May 31st as the main event. I am holding off turning pro until I hit the Invicta stage. I was very fortunate to sign with Invicta Fighting Championships and I want to stand to my word and make my pro debut for them.”
“Doll Face” has never fought outside of either South or North Carolina let alone under the promotion as well known and opportunistic as Invicta FC. With her response it is clear the excitement and the appreciation for the opportunity is there on her behalf.
“Words can’t even explain how excited I was to hear the announcement that they wanted me. I was shocked. I fought so hard on social media to get my name out there. Again being from a small town I feel like this is only the beginning for not only me but my entire team. It really does show that hard work pays off. I continue to work hard every day and just waiting for the announcement on the next big show.”
When asked about whom, when and where she may be making her debut, Ashley kindly stated that the information has yet to fall into her lap, but the excitement and pride in representing North Carolina is certainly carrying a strong presence with in this talented 115lber.
“I will be fighting in the strawweight division. This by far is the most stacked division out there right now. The ladies are hungry and everyone wants the chance to make it big. At the moment I don’t know anything about a future opponent or when it will be. I’m like everyone else on the edge of their seats waiting. I can’t wait though I am so excited to show the world what North Carolina has to offer.”
It appears not only Ashely is excited to make her debut under IFC, but president Shannon Knapp also shares excitement for the young, hungry fighter from North Carolina to show the world what she can bring to the newly re developing strawweight division within the organization.
“Ashley is a very motivated athlete. One of the things that really caught my attention about Ashley was how passionate and invested she was in her career. She really campaigned to capture our attention and to make sure we noticed who she is. An athlete that shows that type of drive, commitment and investment outside of the cage, gives testament to the determination and fortitude they will display to become a champion. It is passionate, committed athletes like Ashley that have helped make Invicta FC an exciting promotion to watch.
Ashley is a young talented athlete that I would consider one of our up and coming strawweight fans will want to keep an eye on. We have replenished our strawweight division and there are a lot of extremely talented athletes in that division. The competition will be tough, but I think Ashley has everything she needs in her arsenal to make her mark at Invicta FC and be one of the fan favorites.”- Shannon Knapp
Keep an eye out as Ashley “Doll Face” Greenway makes her last amateur appearance on May 31st, 2014, before making her professional debut under Invicta FC either later this year or possibly early 2015.
