On June 21, Dustin Long will look to ruin Joel Cooper’s homecoming when they step into the cage and square off against each other at V3Fights.
Long currently has a perfect MMA record (3-0) and fights out of TOT and D EVIL MMA. Also, for this fight, he has been cross training with Team Ox.
Long started out competing as a boxer, but his friends were always trying to convince him to give MMA a try. Actually, one of those friends was going to come to the boxing gym to help Long get ready for a fight a few years back, but said the only way he will come is if Long comes to the MMA gym after his fight. He had a fight on Saturday and kept his word and went to the MMA gym on Sunday and has never left.
It turns out that MMA was his true calling and on June 21 he will face his biggest test to date when he goes up against Joel Cooper. Cooper is known for his athleticism and sick ankle locks, but Long doesn’t seem too worried:
“I have seen a couple of his fights and the dude looks like a beast. He’s explosive and looks like a complete fighter. I know he likes leg locks and heel hooks, but that really doesn’t concern me because I come from a gym that loves them. People make a big deal about his leg locks, but to be honest, the ones that I have seen have been gift wrapped with a bow on them. No disrespect to Joel, but when a guy puts his foot in his face and throwing ridiculously slow kicks, it’s not hard to pull one off” states Long.
Going into this fight, many may see Long as the underdog because they are not familiar with him. However, he is okay with that role and feels the ‘Legion’ will be in for a rude awakening come the 21st:
“If we stand and exchange then I think he is in for a surprise because I haven’t shown ten percent of my stand up yet and it will end in the first round. If he wants to wrestle, then I’m by far the biggest guy that he has fought and once he realizes that day one foot locks won’t cut it, he will break mentally and maybe even get caught in a foot lock himself. But in all seriousness, Joel looks like a tough guy and this will probably be my hardest fight. I just do not see myself going all the way to Memphis without spoiling the hometown party. Same goes with my boy ‘Primetime.’ I know we are probably picked to lose by the fans, reporters, and everyone else in Memphis, but it’s not going down like you all think!!!!”
This one not only has ‘Fight of the Night’ written all over it, but could possibly be in the running for ‘Fight of the Year’ based on the talent that will be in the cage. One thing is for sure, Dustin Long isn’t going to make this trip across the state for nothing and is planning on showing the ‘Legion’ just what he is capable of doing!!!!
