FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London August 12, 2016:  Cage Warriors Fighting Championship announces the opening bouts of Cage Warriors 78 when the promotion returns to Liverpool onSeptember 10 for the first time in two years.

Headlining the show is one of the UK’s hottest MMA prospects, Liverpool’s Chris Fishgold (15-1-1) who makes the first defence of his lightweight title against 27-year-old Frenchman Jason Ponet (16-10-1-1nc).  Other bouts include UFC veteran Vaughan Lee (14-12-1) against Ponet’s teammate Arnold Quero (13-3-0-1nc), the return of Sweden’s Victor Cheng (10-2) against the UK’s Leeroy Barnes (15-15-0-1) as well as former welterweight title challenger Mohsen Bahari (8-3) in a contest with Ali Arish (20-5).

Fishgold is keen to get back to work and defend his lightweight title after he stormed to victory in July at CWFC 77 when he picked up a submission win over Adam Boussif at1:33 of the first round his fifth win for the promotion.

Ponet has had two fights this year with a win and loss a-piece.  The loss came via decision to former UFC athlete Piotr Hallman in a hard fought contest and his most recent victory snapped the seven-fight winning streak of his opponent, unbeaten Englishman Lewis Monarch.  Ponet has won eight of his last 11 fights and comes to this bout a vastly more experienced fighter than Fishgold having competed on three continents and most extensively in Europe during his eight year professional career.

Joining the lightweights on the card is a featherweight contest between Paris based Arnold Quero and Englishman Vaughan Lee - a classic contest of striker versus grappler.  Lee will be the toughest challenge to date for the Frenchman who is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak.  While Lee, who returns to the domestic scene and makes his Cage Warriors debut, is eager to get back to winning ways.

Another fighter keen to get back into the win column is lightweight Tim Wilde (8-2) who recently had a three-fight winning streak snapped by Scott Clist.  Wilde’s opponent is highly regarded Frenchman Mickael Lebout (14-6-1-1nc) who had a short stint in the UFC.

A middleweight bout between Swede, Victor Cheng (10-2) and Englishman Leeroy Barnes (15-15-0-1nc) sees both fighters make a welcome return to the promotion.  Both have scored most of their wins via submission – Cheng is a BJJ black belt whilst Barnes is a no-gi specialist.  Cheng had a break from the sport at the end of 2012 whilst Barnes stayed busy with 10 contests and currently rides a three-fight winning streak.

Mohsen Bahari (8-3) takes on Ali Arish (21-5) in a welterweight contest.  Bahari challenged current UFC star Nicolas Dalby for the welterweight strap back in November 2014 at CWFC 74.  Arish lost out to current CWFC Welterweight Champion, Jack Marshman in June this year.

Cage Warriors 78 will take place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday, September 10, and will be broadcast in the UK and Ireland on BT Sport, around the world on UFC Fight Pass and in Scandinavia on Viasat.
