Erosa Wins CageSport Lightweight Championship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 25, 2017

TACOMA, Wash. – Julian Erosa defeated Justin Harrington in the main event of CageSport 44 to become the new CageSport Lightweight champion Saturday at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash.

Harrington (9-3) came out full of energy and was able to take his opponent down twice early on and appeared to control the pace of the title bout.

Erosa (21-5) attempted to lock in a triangle chock, but Harrington was able to lift Erosa up and savagely slam him to the ground.

Erosa, however, didn’t release the hold and was able to successfully lock in the submission, leading to the victory at the 2 minutes, 23 seconds.

Undefeated Rafael Brewster (4-0) highlighted the undercard, defeating Frankie Orr (3-8) by first-round TKO (3:05).

Fay Bursell defeated Jonathan Gover in the 171-pound semi-main event, winning by second-round KO (4:47).

Things got off to a breakneck pace with the first two bouts ending in impressive fashion.

Justin Mark (3-4) and Armando Best (1-5) kicked things off in a 146-pound clash. Best controlled the contest throughout the first round before each fighter connected with rights, sending both to the canvas.

Mark was able to pick himself back up, Best wasn't so fortunate as Mark notched the victory via first round KO (4:04).

The second bout saw 136-pounders Stephen Wing (1-1) and Marcos Lopez (1-2) put on an absolute war with each landing solid multiple solid strikes.

Lopez appeared to have Wing in an arm bar midway through the second round, but Wing was able to escape and score a win by rear naked choke a mere seconds later.

Journey Newson (5-1) notched his fifth consecutive victory, defeating Jordan Mackin (3-8) by rear naked choke (third round, 4:55), while Anthony Zender (8-9) won for the eighth time in his last nine fights with a majority decision (28-28, 29-27, 29-25) over Sean Gee (2-3).

Also on the undercard, Cris Williams won his professional debut with a victory by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26) over Wyatt Gonzalez (0-2) in a 150-pound matchup, while Zach Skinner (10-11) handed Eric Higaonna (7-1) his first career defeat, winning the 133-pound fight by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).
