Erosa Faces Nuro for Title at CageSport 48

TACOMA, Wash. – Julian Erosa will challenge Bryan Nuro for the vacant CageSport Lightweight championship at the main event of CageSport 48 on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash.

The 5-round title fight will be one of nine bouts on the card.

Tickets are available through the EQC box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Preliminary bouts start at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Erosa brings a 20-5 record into the championship bout, while Bryan Nuro is 7-1.

“The lightweight division in the Pacific Northwest is stacked right now,” promoter Brian Halquist said. “I don’t think we have ever had a deeper, more talented classification than we do currently with the lightweights in our area. Erosa and Nuro represent two of the best overall pound-for-pound MMA fighters in the Northwest and we are thrilled they are going to step into the cage and battle for the title.”

Erosa and Nuro join former CageSport Lightweight titleholder Bobby McIntyre to comprise an extremely gifted lightweight division in the Pacific Northwest.

Halquist Productions decided to vacate the title from McIntyre after he was unable to defend the title at CageSport 47 and declined to defend the title at CageSport 48. McIntyre’s camp has also noted their intention to drop down a weight class to 145. McIntyre will be given the first priority to fight for the CageSport 145 or 155-pound title when he is ready to return.

Erosa defeated former CageSport lightweight champion, Justin Harrington, for the title on Feb. 25 then made a successful defense in the rematch on April 22.

Prior to losing his title to Erosa, Harrington defended it against Nuro, winning by decision on May 7, 2016. Nuro rebounded by defeating McIntyre for the interim title on Dec. 17, 2016.

McIntyre proved just how loaded the division is on April 22 by taking the title from Erosa, giving each fighter at least one victory over the other.

“All these guys are warriors,” Halquist said. “I think the local MMA fans know just how lucky we are to have so many incredible lightweights who are all willing to fight each other. It’s kind of turned into its own unofficial lightweight tournament, and Erosa facing Nuro is the next logical step. It’s been very exciting.”

Erosa, a two-time CageSport Lightweight champion and two-time CageSport Featherweight champion, notched his 20th career victory on Nov. 4 with a third-round knockout of Erick Sanchez.

Nuro is coming off a victory over previously undefeated Vincent Fricilone on Sept. 30.

Highlighting the undercard will be a semi-main event between 156-pounders Chris Stone (3-1) and Dex Montenegro (6-3) and a 126-pound clash between Benjamin Vinson (8-5-1) and Eric Higaonna (8-2).

Additional undercard bouts include bouts between Armando Best and Terrance McKinney (146 pounds), Chase Hooper and Sean Soliz (155), Logan Hooper and Randy Zarza (265) and Talon Hammons and Kody Hammond (146).
