Khabib Nurmagomedov Next for Conor McGregor?
While Conor McGregor has been absent from the UFC, the biggest MMA organization in the world has gone on without its top attraction.
'The Notorious' has not been seen in the Octagon since that historic night at Madison Square Garden in New York City, when he dethroned Eddie Alvarez in two rounds back in November 2016 to become the first ever simultaneous two-weight world champion in the company.
From there, the Irishman has already sealed himself as the UFC's biggest and best star in the sport, while seeing himself rise to a prestigious position of prominence in the sporting world as a whole. He hasn't stepped foot in the MMA cage in over almost two years now, but reports are circulating that that could soon finally come to an end in 2018.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is the man touted as the next opponent for the deadly Dubliner, with the Russian now in possession of the UFC lightweight title which McGregor never lost in the octagon, having been stripped of the belt during his long layoff.
McGregor vs Khabib has the potential to be the biggest MMA event in history, with the Irishman having already boosted any future promotion with his bizarre and highly controversial antics at a previous UFC event. The former 155lbs titleholder arrived at the venue of an earlier event in which Nurmagomedov was scheduled to take part, where McGregor and his allies proceeded to destroy the departing team bus and call for the Russian to come out and face them.
With the UFC cameras having been firmly fixed on such crazy actions, it will only bolster any potential hysteria surroundings a battle between McGregor and Khabib for the lightweight championship of the world.
That would be another massive bout to occur throughout the year in the world of combat sports, with a possible heavyweight title unification between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder another big blockbuster that may be set to take place. It's the British fighter that would
That would be another massive bout to occur throughout the year in the world of combat sports, with a possible heavyweight title unification between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder another big blockbuster that may be set to take place. It's the British fighter that would enter that match-up as the odds-on 4/9 favourite in the boxing betting with bet365 to come out on top as expected.
There are, of course, other fights that McGregor could take on his eventual return to the UFC after a one-off feature in the boxing ring, in which he was stopped inside ten rounds by Floyd Mayweather Jr last August at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The return of UFC legend George St. Pierre is an intriguing proposition for the Irishman and that pairing could potentially shatter all previous pay per view records in the organization's history. Meanwhile, a rubber match with long-standing rival Nate Diaz is another that McGregor has previously expressed a desire in making.
Although, all signs are currently pointing towards a high-profile clash with bitter rival Khabib, in an encounter between current and former lightweight champions. Fans are dying to see the controversial Irishman back doing what he does best, fighting in the Octagon, and we could witness that in the coming months against a new Russian foe.
