FCFF Fighter Spotlight: Michael Collazo's Title Shot

On Saturday, December 10th Michael Collazo of Clackamas will go for his first FCFF 185-pound Championship Title at Rumble @ The Roseland 89. Collazo is a warrior, father, recovering addict, and dedicated teammate. He will face Derek Rottenberg, an undefeated fighter from Rogue Combat Academy, who hopes to take the Title back to Medford, Oregon.

While Collazo has five victories on his MMA resume, he started his career with a round one loss as an independent fighter in November 2014. Nick Gilardi and Michael Chapman of Impact JJ saw his fight potential and invited him to train. In a few short months he entered the FCFF's slammer and earned a win over Anthoni Van Hattem at Rumble @ The Roseland 80 via a round one TKO. At this point he was over two years sober, leaving a life of addiction and crime behind to better himself for his family. Re-dedicating himself to sports played a large role in his success. "I'm now 3.5 years clean and sober, and a big part of that is due to MMA and Jiu Jitsu," Collazo explained.

On Saturday, December 10th, it's more than just an FCFF Championship fight for Collazo; it’s a chance to confirm his commitment to do better, to be better. His last two fights were back-to-back victories. First, in December of 2015, he beat Shalamar Washington at Rumble @ The Roseland 84 via a round three ref stoppage due to strikes. In April he faced a former FCFF Champion, Scot Davenport at the "Arena Wars" event and pulled off a round three submission victory.

Collazo's plans do not stop at the FCFF's Title fight. In the next year he's planning on making his pro debut. No matter what happens with his fighting career, he's looking to start a class for troubled youth in our community. "I'd like to give them a positive outlet and some direction. If I can prevent just one kid from having to go through what I did, then it would all be a success," he said. On top of fighting, Collazo is a laborer with the local 737 working a full time concrete job with Hoffman structure. He trains up to three hours per evening with his 'fight family' at Impact JJ. His motivation is his daughter, who has cheered him on from the sidelines.

The 185-pound Middleweight FCFF Championship between Michael Collazo and Derek Rottenberg is one of four Title fights on the Rumble @ The Roseland 89 Fight Card. Tickets start at $29 for general admission seating. Bypass the fee by purchasing tickets at Bridge City Fight Shop, or buy them online at cascadetickets.com.
