Warriors for Charity (WFC) rocking up the North with Live Mixed Martial Arts at Gurney Paragon Mall, Georgetown Penang

 31st July 2016, Georgetown – WARRIORS (WFC) a Penang based sports organization just concluded  Warriors for Charity; a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) tournament that was held on the 31st July 2016 Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang. The tournament has shaken the venue’s 8000-odd mall-goers and sport enthusiasts as they witnessed the live MMA actions that day. The event which opens to the public has also sold some banquet tables at the venue for its VIPs. Where some of the proceeds went to the St. Joseph Orphanage and Children Protection Society. The charity event managed to raise RM15,000 each for St. Joseph Orphange and Children Protection Society, paying out a total of RM30,000 that day.

 

Warriors For Charity featured the 4-men Grand Prix in 2 separate divisions as the launch of Warriors Fighting Championship MMA ranking system. The event also featured a Professional MMA bout between a Brazilian Black Belt in the art of Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) and a Filipino MMA practitioner. Kickboxing and other Amateur MMA bouts were also added to the mix to help build the ranking system.

Hussain and Choong were supposed to compete for the championship title of the Amateur MMA Flyweigh when Choong was ruled unfit to continue to the second round due to a cut from the initial match.

Amateur Catchweight MMA

Nik Alfam (Malaysia) vs Eddy See (MY) – RNC Rd2 0:22

 

Nik Alfam was originally in the Grand Prix Amateur Flyweight tournament, he was moved into the catchweight match due to him unable to make the weight for the Flyweight category.

WFC’s President and CEO Dominic Dorall, addressed that “to improve on the quality of the show and athletes, a ranking system is created where the records of the amateurs and professional fighters are consolidated to determine the class divisions they are in”. WFC has introduced 4 separate divisions:

Top 15 amateur athletes with more than 10 fight experience and in the running for WFC Amateur Championship Title

Amateur athletes with more than 5 fights experience

Division D

Debuts to amateur athletes with less than 5 fights experience

 

He added that “WFC will bear the cost for every fighter to undergo a mandatory blood test before joining its full contact sports events, the promotion is regulating a fighters’ license that will ensure the safety of all fighters and promotions”.

 

 

 

 

 

This event on the 31st July 2016, witnessed WFC Founder & President Dominic Dorall together with the board of directors signing the partnership of WARRIORS and Reebok Malaysia (under RSH (M) Sdn. Bhd.) to activate Reebok related events in Malaysia.

Reebok currently is active in partnership with CrossFit, Les Mills, UFC (MMA), Spartan Race (Obstacle Race), Ragnar Relay.

WFC also signed a MOU with UiTM to further explore and develop future events as partners and for UiTM to further discuss venue provision for WFC events in the near future.

Ultimately, for MMA alone, WFC will be working towards holding two events a month: One in Penang and one in Klang Valley in the months to come.
