WSOF-GC 2 Japan: Evgeny Erokhin vs Brandon Cash Press Release

WSOF-GC 2 Japan: Evgeny Erokhin vs Brandon Cash Press Release

Fight Scheduled for February 7 at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan

LAS VEGAS, NV  January 15, 2016              World Series of Fighting – Global Championship (WSOF-GC) has officially announced today that Hungarian heavyweight, Jani Istvan suffered an injury in training. Stepping up on short notice is USA’s Brandon Cash “Money” (10-3). Cash will now face Russia’s Evgeny Erokhin (13-4) for the inaugural WSOF-GC World Heavyweight Title.

The 6’5” Cash joins the WSOF-GC roster on a five-fight win streak, having not lost since 2010. All of his wins during that run have come via KO/TKO stoppage or Submission due to strikes, including wins in Bellator and against previously undefeated Dimitriy Mikutsa.

Erokhin brings his own impressive resume into the decagon with his last eight victories all coming via knockout, including wins over Brett Rogers, Mike Kyle, Jeff Monson and Tim Hague. Erokhin previously fought for the WSOF-GC World Heavyweight Championship back on November 21 but was denied when the event was ruled a no-contest in the first round due to an inadvertent eye poke.

“It’s hard for someone to stay under the radar in MMA for long,” states WSOF-GC Vice President of Operations and Matchmaker Jason Lilly, “but that’s exactly what Brandon Cash has done. He certainly wasn’t hidden from our gaze and when this opportunity became available. Cash was at the top of our short list of potential opponents to face Erokhin. Both of those men hit like a truck. One fighter will leave the decagon with his hand raised and the belt around their waist. The other fighter could easily leave with their jaw dislocated.”

WSOF-GC Director of Operations, Darren Owen, reiterates, “We were disappointed to hear about Jani’s injury. He and his team have been very excited about the match up and have been actively promoting the event. These things happen. Fortunately, we were able to find a suitable replacement to a stellar card. A freak accident denied Erokhin the opportunity to bring the belt home in November. We didn’t want to deny him a second chance at glory. However, Cash ‘Money’ certainly does. No matter who wins, Jani is looking forward to his opportunity once he’s healed.”

The event also features Japanese legends, Akihiro Gono, Michihiro Omigawa, and Hisae Watanabe. WSOF-GC President, Shawn Wright, adds “Having some of the most well-known and well-respected fighters in Japan’s history certainly is a testament that World Series of Fighting Global Championship is making a very positive progression into the MMA market in Asia. Although the main event features a USA vs Russia heavyweight battle, the rest of the card has shaped up to be Japan vs The World, with fighters from Slovakia, France, South Korea, United States, and Poland all taking on some of the very best fighters Japan has to offer.”

The event will air live on the WSOF-GC website, Fans watching the event can also win a Ducati motorcycle and other great prizes courtesy of SHOUT TV and Jim Beam. People watching online will need to download the SHOUT TV app and WSOF-GC app, then answer questions during the live event.
