XCC Fighter Of The Week: Alex Myers
This weeks XCC fighter of the week is heavyweight amateur Alex Myers who made his debut with us almost three years ago. A current purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Paperstreet BJJ under Jason Frawley, Alex's training partners include Adam Soley, Matt Tennet, Kyle Myers as well as XCC Middleweight champ Lex Ludlow.
We talked with XCC Veteran Alex Myers so the fans can get to know this mixed martial artist and his life a little better.
XCC: Why and when did you get interested in becoming a fighter?
Alex: I've always been an MMA fan, but what got me into actually stepping up and fighting was I had just dropped out of college and was doing nothing competitive. Lex Ludlow gave me a call (we wrestled for the same high school), he had started training and thought I'd be a good fit. The rest is history.
XCC: How long were you in the military and what was your job?
Alex: I joined the PA National Guard in 2008 when I was 17. I have been enlisted since then. In 2014 I was deployed to Afghanistan as a heavy equipment operator.
XCC: As a heavy weight fighter what do you feel are the biggest pros & cons of the weight class?
Alex: Fighting heavyweight is the end all be all. All through history the great heavyweight champs have been the best remembered like Joe Louis, Ali, Tyson and now with MMA we have guys like Fedor and Werdum carrying on that legacy. The cons are its two fat guys in their underwear fighting for people's entertainment. Girls usually aren't into that or maybe it's just me they don't like.
XCC: What has been your greatest experience since taking your first MMA fight?
Alex: My best experience in MMA was getting my first win back in August 2015 in front of all my friends and family.
XCC: Outside of MMA what are your interests?
Alex: I'm a huge comic book nerd as can be seen by the Captain America shield tattoo on my left arm.
XCC: Anything else you would like your friends, family & fans to know?
Alex: XCC 24 on April 30 fans can expect another great heavyweight fight.
Alex will be returning to XCC for his fourth amateur MMA fight April 30th at the Sands Casino Bethlehem. We look forward to presenting yet another event to the XCC fans loaded with top talent and exciting fighters such as Alex.
