Xiaomi ROAD FC 031 update: Lee Yun-Jun faces George Roop at Featherweight
Xiaomi presents ROAD FC 031 card update: Bantamweight Champion Lee Yun-Jun takes on George Roop
11 April, 2016 - ROAD Fighting Championship is excited to announce the next bout for Xiaomi presents ROAD FC 031, which will take place on 14 May, 2016 in Seoul, South Korea at the Jangchung Gymnasium. ROAD FC Bantamweight Champion Lee Yun-Jun will take on newly-signed UFC veteran George Roop, the “Zombie Killer”.
ROAD FC Bantamweight Champion Lee Yun-Jun (10-2) is widely recognized as one of the best fighters to hail from South Korea. After faltering in his early career against eventual Flyweight Champion Song Min-Jong, Lee went on a blazing streak of 8 wins, three of them with first round knockouts. From his decisive wins over Japanese notables DEEP Champion Takafumi Otsuka and Coro Terashima, to claiming the title from Lee Kil-Woo, and his most recent Superfight victory over fellow ROAD FC Champion at Featherweight Choi Mu-Gyeom, Lee seems to be a freight train that is no where near slowing down.
George Roop (15-12-1) has had an exciting MMA career on the international stage for a decade. Roop was featured on the 8th season of UFC's The Ultimate Fighter and earned his first shot in the UFC. Then he transitioned to WEC, where he became the first man to ever stop “Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-Sung with a Knockout of the Night head kick. Roop went back into the UFC and spent five years in the feather- and bantamweight divisions, earning wins over such fighters as Josh Grispi and Brian Bowles, and meeting other Asian superstars like Hatsu Hioki and Takeya Mizugaki.
At 185cm, with a reach that equals his height, Roop will be the form of a fighter that Lee has not yet met in the ROAD FC cage. Both have proven themselves to be thrilling show-stoppers from start to finish. What remains to be seen is whether Roop can derail the Korean train, or whether Lee will run through yet another top-notch opponent.
Openweight Grudge Match: ROAD FC Lightweight Champion vs Lee Dool-Hee
Also at Xiaomi ROAD FC 031, ROAD FC Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol will face Middleweight Lee Dool-Hee in a grudge match at Openweight.
ROAD FC Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol is expected to rise up literally three weight classes to face Lee Dool-Hee, who recently fights at Middleweight. Both tested veterans have been on the Korean MMA scene since the very beginning. Kwon's ascension to the ROAD FC Lightweight title has seen him polish and prove his striking skill in wars with consummate contender Kume Takasuke and long time rival Lee Kwang-Hee. While Lee's record might not be as illustrious as Kwon's, he has mixed it up with the best in the division, including going almost two rounds with former ROAD FC Middleweight Champion Riki Fukuda, and a commendable win over King of Pancrase Ryo Kawamura.
What both Kwon and Lee bring into the cage are a pair of heavy hands that seek the KO. Couple that power with bad intentions, and this is one grudge match that is not going to hear the final bell ring!
