What next for ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor After Floyd Mayweather Loss
Things did not go as planned for The Notorious Conor McGregor on his boxing début against arguably the greatest boxer of all time, Floyd “Money” Mayweather. The Irish superstar put it all on the line once again but this time came up short in an exciting 10 round fight. The MMA superstar started off extremely well winning the first few round before fading badly and been outclassed. New betting companies were very relieved to see him lose as he was one of the biggest back underdogs in history and if he had won they would have lost staggering amounts.
McGregor is a fighter with the most options on the table as every MMA and Boxer wants the chance to make life changing money by fighting him. He is undoubtedly the biggest attraction in both sports and his epic fight against Mayweather broke every record in the history books. It is estimated that the Irish MMA star earns over $100 million and Mayweather reportedly took home more than $350 million. When you consider most fighters in both sports earns thousands and not millions per fight, it is no surprise why everyone wants to face the UFC two weight class champ.
For most fighters, earning over $100 million in a single fight would see them walk away from the sport extremely happy. McGregor did not get where he is today though without his huge ego and ambition. He is determined to top the Forbes Rich List for the highest paid sports star in the world and it is certainly within his grasp if he PPV numbers continue his current trend.
MMA fans are desperate to see the fighter back in the Octagon to defend his light middleweight belt. The problem faced by the UFC is that they can not compete with the level of money McGregor would make if he were to box again. The Irishman is very proud of being the best mixed martial artist in the world though and his pride along with ambition should hopefully see him back fighting in the sport that made him the star he is today.
There are a number of fights in the UFC that fans would love to see. One of the most exciting matchups would be a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz. The last two times the pair have got it on have been at 170 lbs and if the third fight gets the go ahead it will be at 155 lbs which is the weight class McGregor is the champ.
It is expected if McGregor does fight in the UFC again that it will be to defend his belt against the winner of Ferguson Vs Lee. Conor has said though that he would like to fight Khabib in Russia but the fighter has major problems making the weight so makes it doubtful that it will go ahead. Another option would be Featherweight Champ Max Holloway but the Irishman has already beaten him and would struggle to make the weight since fighting at heavier weight over the last couple of years.
