Super Fight League America 2 presented by Brian Halquist Productions held at the
Emerald Queen Casino was a night of epic local fights and big named fighters putting on
the best show the Northwest has to offer. Two title belts were on the line which were in the
Lightweight and Welterweight weight classes. Both title fights were amazing displays of
gameness and heart each fighter had not only putting on such a great show but as you read below
an epic display of brutal strikes and technique.
In The Super Fight League America 2 co-main event, Ben Fodor aka The Seattle
Superhero "Phoenix Jones" fought Tyson Cunningham for the SFL Welterweight title in an
all out brawl that got the best reaction out of any fight of the night, having the whole
crowd standing cheering at the end of the fight. Cunningham started the fight
with an immediate takedown and utilized that position keeping on top with a vicious ground and pound.
Fodor stayed active while on bottom giving hard jabs from his back defending from any advance in position,
but Cunningham's wrestling and dominate position gave him the round.
Round 2 went similar having Cunningham controlling the fight with his superb wrestling.
Anytime he was having trouble on his feet,Cunningham scored a takedown
and in the round got two submission attempts going for an armbar and a guillotine choke while
staying active in top position. Round 3, Fodor started to turn up the aggression coming out quick with a
flurry of punches and followed it with a submission attempt guillotine when he lost the choke
unfortunately followed up with an illegal upkick with Cunningham on his knees. Fodor was deducted
one point and the fight continued. Cunningham used his wrestling to stay on top, but Fodor attempted
to get a guillotine choke and once that failed was able to pull a reversal and get on top to end the round.
Once the championship rounds started, Fodor turned up the momentum and would deliver a
constant fury of punches showing his superior stand-up but Cunninghams wrestling decided
where the fight should go, scoring 5 of 7 takedowns in the round while Fodor got a reversal to
top position and delievered ground and pound to finish the round. Final round, Fodor rushes out
and immediately starts going to work with haymaker punches trying to finish on the feet. Fodor landed
some hard left and right hooks before Cunningham decided to take the fight to the ground.
Fodor got a reversal to top position then tried capitalizing with two guillotine submission attempts
and doing damage from the bottom but to conclude, Cunningham's wrestling advantage kept him
on top and stayed the agressor in the final minute. The bout was so back and forth that
the judges acummulative decision was ruled a Split Draw (49-45, 47-47, 47-47),
with the judge not scoring the bout a draw giving the fight to Tyson Cunningham.
Super Fight League America Welterweight title belt was not awarded to any fighter.
In the SFL America 2 Main Event, Tacoma's own Harrison Bevens took on Yakima native Julian Erosa that was
a stand-up battle to the bitter end. Both came out in a kickboxing frenzy. Bevens pushed forward and landed
punches in the close range exchanges while Erosa traded kick for kick with his long reach. Half way into the
round Erosa accidentally did a sidekick to the groin. The fight was mostly even with both fighters landing clean
headkicks and both countering each others exchanges, but Bevens aggression and accuracy with strikes
gave him the round. Second round, Bevens stayed the aggressor trying to get through Erosa's long reach and
going for a finish. Minutes into the second round, Erosa landed another accidental strike to the groin. Bevens
got his composure and pushed forward but out of nowhere, Julian Erosa landed a vicious headkick that
dropped Bevens and as he tried getting up Erosa returns with a pinpoint knee that finished the job, knocking
Bevens out cold earning Julian Erosa the victory and crowned the new SFL America Lightweight title belt.
