Seoul South Korea to host ROAD FC 22 on March 21st
3 February, 2015 – ROAD FC 022, the second event of 2015, will take place on 21 March in Seoul, South Korea at a venue to be confirmed in a later release.. The Main Event will be ROAD FC Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol’s first title defense against former rival “Krazy” Lee Kwang-Hee.
Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol has been a controversial knock out artist in Korean MMA since 2005. He became an international journeyman for several years until his mandatory military service.
Kwon’s comeback fight at ROAD FC 013 ended in bitter dismay as he was knocked out by Koji Nakamura in the second round. Kwon did not let the disappointment stop him. In his next impressive run, he choked out Muay Thai Champion Mostafa Abdollahi and WOCS Champion Giovani Diniz to earn a shot at the Lightweight Title, which was vacated upon Nam Yui-Chul’s release to UFC.
For the vacant title at ROAD FC 017 on 17 August, 2014, Kwon faced two-time former contender Kume Takasuke. It was an even first round with both fighters testing punches and Kume testing takedowns. In the second round, Kwon honed in on his target and landed many good jabs and punches that almost had Kume on the ropes. Kume responded with a third round grappling comeback, but Kwon reversed him in the final minute with a dominant finish which earned him the Lightweight title.
Kwon’s first challenger for the belt will be a rival he knows well: Lee Kwang-Hee. Kwon challenged Lee twice before in Spirit MC, but was not able to wrestle the Welterweight Title from him.
Without a Korean fighting championship to return to, Lee went to Sengoku and DEEP FC, where he faced the top competition. In his return to Korea and fighting in ROAD FC, Lee was KOed by a brutal knee from Muay Thai specialist Bruno Miranda. He redeemed himself by knocking out Moon Ki-Bum in the second round at ROAD FC 019. Now Lee will aim to keep his resurgence by facing his former rival for the belt.
The Lightweight Championship between Kwon A-Sol and Challenger Lee Kwang-Hee truly has the makings of “bitter rivals” written all over it!
